Today's Random Act of Kindness

When boarding a bus today after my 2:00 lecture, I stumbled upon today's random act of kindess--

When a bus finally rolled around, all of us (there were many waiting for a bus) made it our mission to shove into the vehicle-- I have often heard people compare themselves to cattle when this crowded bus scenario happens---  Now, in being a short little lady, if I am going to have to stand on a bus, I try to stay in the aisle so I can hold onto a seat as opposed to the bar (which always proves hard to reach). Unfortunately, this bus ride didn't give me the chance to grab such placment, so I was forced to do the arm out of socket reach. A young man who was near and watching me perform this probably painful, inconvenient, and yet probably humorous looking task, looked at me and said " do you want to sit down", I smiled embarrassingly and said, "oh no, it is alright, it is a good stretch!", we both ended the conversation with an awkward chuckle.

When people are on the bus they tend to look at, talk to, and acknowledge other borders very seldom, so when he talked to me I was happily caught of guard.  As one of these passengers, in an attempt to avoid the awkward eye contact, I was trying to look natural in my probably very unnatural looking pose... looks like I still managed to play the fool. It was in today's random act of kindness that I was brought back to the reality of human connectedness and the kindness that can be present even among the crowded bus moments.
